Road Vehicle Standards (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Amendment 2022

✦ Plain-English Summary

# Road Vehicle Standards (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Amendment 2022 ## What it does This bill extends transition periods for vehicle manufacturers and importers from 12 months to 24 months under Australia's road vehicle safety standards. It's basically giving businesses more time to adapt to new rules about how cars and vehicles must be built and imported. ## Why it matters Car manufacturers and importers have more breathing room to meet tougher safety standards without being penalised for non-compliance right away. This could mean fewer rushed compliance issues, though it also delays when stricter rules fully take effect on the roads. ## Key details - **The extension**: Two transition periods in the original 2018 Act both jumped from 12 to 24 months - **When it kicks in**: The changes took effect the moment Parliament gave Royal Assent (no waiting period) - **Who it affects**: Vehicle manufacturers, importers, and the businesses that need to comply with updated road vehicle safety standards
